HUSUM Wind presents itself as the shop window of the German Energiewende

Husum – After a successful opening day with many notables from the fields of politics, industry and trade associations, HUSUM Wind is now in the midst of the fair’s activities. In numerous forums and workshops the industry is exchanging ideas and experiences with current wind industry topics. There is also an excursion for interested fair visitors to the nearby Senvion production plants and the Windtestfeld Nord, where newly developed wind turbines are tested under optimal wind conditions.

“Wind energy is peace policy”, says Hermann Albers, president of the German Wind Energy Association, at the HUSUM Wind opening event in the NordseeCongressCentrum, with reference to the current floods of refugees. With regard to Germany he added: “as an industry we must also do our bit and offer refugees prospects for the future.” At the same time he emphasises the importance of the wind industry, which now provides around 140,000 jobs, for the German economy, and appealed to government not to make the same mistakes with wind energy that they made with photovoltaics.

For four days the wind industry’s most important event is showcasing the performance capacity of this part of this renewable energy sector and emphasises the importance of the German wind industry far beyond its borders. The focus of this year’s HUSUM Wind, with over 650 domestic and international exhibitors from 25 countries, is on the German core market. This and the German Energiewende (shift to reliance on renewables) are an example for other nations. This is made demonstrated by the numerous foreign delegations, including the ones from Poland, Sweden and Taiwan, expected on Wednesday. More visits by delegations will follow on the coming days of the fair. Representatives of the fair’s partner state Baden-Württemberg will also be making a visit.

Husum’s special networking charm is in very much in evidence both at the specialist events during the day and the various exhibitors’ stand parties in the evenings. Outside HUSUM Wind the fair is also offering a very varied peripheral programme, such as today’s (Wednesday) early morning HUSUM Wind Run. With the motto Faster than the Wind, the run was routed through Husum town centre and along the harbour. In the coming days of the fair there will be other interesting excursions, including one to a communal wind farm.

HUSUM Wind and WindEnergy Hamburg

HUSUM Wind is being held from 15 to 18 September 2015 in wind pioneer country Schleswig-Holstein, on the German North Sea coast. The focus of the trade fair is the German-speaking market. It has long been known as the traditional meeting place for the industry to have an intensive exchange of ideas and experiences, and for practically oriented added value.

WindEnergy Hamburg will be opening its doors once again from 27 to 30 September 2016. The leading international trade fair for the on and offshore wind industry in the wind metropolis Hamburg showcases the global market and the entire value chain.
