HUSUM Wind 2017 opens: this is where the future of the wind industry is discussed

The dates for HUSUM Wind 2017 appear to be ideal: shortly after the results of the first tendering rounds were published and directly before the federal election show that the industry is going through radical change.

12.09.2017 // New and old market players are shaping this change with specialised solutions and products. Around 700 exhibitors from Germany and the surrounding countries will be showcasing an abundance of innovations in Husum from 12 to 15 September 2017. Attendees can also enjoy a very diverse congress programme that includes over 100 forums, panel discussions, seminars and excursions. There is a lot to discover and talk about at HUSUM Wind in the next four days. This year the organiser, Messe Husum & Congress GmbH, is expecting over 18,000 in the five exhibition halls. The trade fair has grown considerably compared with 2015: almost 700 exhibitors and over 27,500 square metres of exhibition space represent a growth of over ten per cent compared with the last fair.

This morning, Daniel Günther, minister-president of Schleswig-Holstein, and Peter Becker, managing director of Messe Husum & Congress GmbH, gave the starting signal for the 15th HUSUM Wind, which this year is the world’s biggest wind energy trade fair. “Together with the people of the state we want to make the energy transition a success. Schleswig-Holstein should be the role model for the successful transition to using renewable energy. A basic prerequisite for this is that energy must remain affordable. Constantly increasing energy prices damage acceptance and consequently the energy transition project. This is why the expansion of wind turbines must be linked more closely to grid expansion. We will make sure that happens”, said minister-president Daniel Günther.

The official partner state at this year’s fair is North Rhine-Westphalia. Representing North Rhine-Westphalia at the opening celebrations was Christoph Dammermann, undersecretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digitalisation and Energy. “As the top onshore and offshore wind industry supplier state, North Rhine-Westphalia plays an outstanding role: there is hardly a turbine anywhere in the world that rotates without engineering from our federal state. This underscores North Rhine-Westphalia’s strength in all areas of industrial energy conversion. HUSUM Wind offers North Rhine-Westphalian businesses excellent opportunities to network across the industry.”

Two representatives of the most important industry associations were also present, in the persons of Hermann Albers, president of the German wind Energy Association, and Matthias Zelinger, managing director of VDMA Power Systems and VDMA energy spokesman.

The guests got their first insights during an official tour of the trade fair. “During these four days we are at the centre of the wind industry. This is where everyone comes together. With the results of the last round of tenders and the forthcoming federal election, this year’s discussions will be particularly interesting. HUSUM Wind will more than fulfil its function as the crucial platform for the most important industry representatives to exchange views”, explained Peter Becker.

HUSUM Wind has been the established meeting place of the industry for over 25 years. The exhibitors showcase products and services along the entire value creation chain. The Who’s Who of the turbine manufacturers, project developers, component builders, suppliers, service providers and consulting businesses are represented in Husum. They all come together here to discuss current political and technical issues like the tendering system, maintenance concepts and repowering. In addition to renowned major industry players, innovative young enterprises and start-ups will also be showcasing their new products.

With the two special subjects of Offshore and Sector Coupling & Grid Integration, HUSUM Wind is picking up on urgent industry topics that make important contributions to the success of the energy transition. Parallel to the fair there is a diverse congress programme with over 100 forums, workshops, panel discussions, seminars and excursions. On the last day of the fair, industry experts come together with students and new industry entrants at the Windcareer job fair. With over 35 exhibitors and a diverse programme of lectures, Windcareer is one of the industry’s biggest job fairs.
