Husum | 15 September 2023. HUSUM WIND 2023, which the patron of the fair, Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck, described in his opening speech as the “beating heart of the energy transition”, came to an end today. Under the motto “Transforming Energy”, over 12,000 trade visitors from 51 countries streamed through the five exhibition halls over the four days of the fair, where product innovations and cutting-edge technology along the entire value chain in the growing renewable energy market were presented on 25,000 square metres. “At HUSUM WIND it became clear once again that the industry is technically well equipped to meet the challenges and growing demand in the German market. The exhibitors were very satisfied with the number and quality of the trade visitors. Both are also related to the new business fields around wind energy, hydrogen and digitalisation that we are presenting at the trade fair,” said the new trade fair director Meike Kern, summing up HUSUM WIND 2023.
Premieres at HUSUM WIND 2023 – Top 5 exhibiting countries
Over the four days of the fair, a wide range of premieres and innovations were on show in areas such as plant engineering, manufacturing, hydrogen production and intelligent drive and maintenance systems. For example, domestic and foreign turbine manufac- turers presented their latest top models, a Chinese company celebrated the premiere of its new turbine platform, and start-ups showcased promising technologies in VR/digital, hybrid plant construction and drone technology. Project developers and suppliers also presented innovations ranging from hybrid energy park concepts to BNK solutions and precision milling for 10m flanges. China and Denmark were among the top 5 exhibiting countries at HUSUM WIND this year.
Federal Minister Habeck and high-level political presence at the fair
The economic importance of wind energy and the role of Husum Wind as the most important industry meeting place for the German market were underlined by the strong presence of federal and state politicians. Following the participation of Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck, Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister of Energy Tobias Goldschmidt and Lower Saxony’s Minister of Economics Olaf Lies on the opening day, politicians from the northern federal states also visited the fair over the following days, including Schleswig-Holstein’s Minister President Daniel Günther and Digital Minister Dirk Schrödter, as well as Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania’s Minister of Economics Reinhard Meyer.
The industry associations are also optimistic about the future. BWE President Bärbel Heidebroek summed up at the end of HUSUM WIND: “It was noticeable at the trade fair that the industry is on the move. The positive impulses from the German government are beginning to take effect.” Dennis Rendschmidt from VDMA Power Systems came to a similar conclusion: “The mood at the fair was very positive, and the response from exhibiting members was good across the board. The industry still faces challenges in terms of implementation, but the political will is strengthening the industry.”
Green Hydrogen and Digitalisation
Special themes at this year’s trade fair for onshore and offshore wind technology were green hydrogen and digitalisation. In the Hydrogen Area in Hall 5, more than 40 exhibitors presented innovative technologies and potential along new value chains in the green hydrogen economy. With the Digital+ Area, the trade fair offered a separate platform for digital topics such as artificial intelligence, IT security and blockchain technology.
HUSUM WIND 2023 closes today with WINDCareer. In view of the increasing shortage of skilled workers and the numerous career opportunities, this year’s job fair attracted an above-average number of interested parties.
The next HUSUM WIND will take place from 16 to 19 September 2025.
